JOB SUMMARY/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACT:

This role provides technical leadership for the server, storage and network infrastructure by designing, implementing, and managing IT systems in a virtualized (VMWare) and cloud environment. Server management includes SQL database administration. Secondary responsibilities include occasional backup support for desktop issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Server and SQL database Administration: Deploy, maintain, monitor and troubleshoot host servers in virtual environment (VMWare), VM servers and physical Windows servers; manage Active Directory and Azure AD (Entra). Manage and maintain Microsoft SQL Servers by following best practices. Optimize database performance and troubleshoot issues.

2. Microsoft 365: Manage and monitor Business Premium Microsoft 365 environment including Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Defender. Troubleshoot and resolve issues.

3. Network: Monitor, troubleshoot and recommend improvements for network switches, wireless controllers and access points, and other infrastructure related backbone equipment. Maintain network performance by conducting network monitoring, analysis, and performance tuning. Manage and configure the firewall by setting up firewall rules, monitoring traffic, and ensuring that the firewall is correctly integrated into the network.

4. Data Storage: Manage, monitor and configure data storage, including on-premise SAN and Azure cloud.

5. Backup/Recovery: Manage, document and test data backup and recovery system. Work with the Business Continuity team to conduct annual disaster recovery testing.

6. Patching: Administer and recommend improvements for security patch and vulnerability management systems, procedures and processes.

7. Security: Participate in the investigation and resolution of cybersecurity events/incidents, participate in vulnerability assessments and security audits, recommend and implement remediations and stay up to date with evolving security threats

8. As secondary support to the Desktop Technician, troubleshoot and resolve user desktop and peripheral device issues.

9. Keep current with the latest technologies.

10. Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge and Skill

• Strong knowledge of VMWare virtualization architecture, Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies, Azure cloud platform, Ruckus and Cisco switches and wireless controllers.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL database administration best practices and troubleshooting skills.
• Thorough understanding of Azure Active Directory (Entra), M365, and Active Directory.
• Familiarity with security patching and vulnerability management tools.
• Strong knowledge of Windows server operating systems 2012R2 to 2022.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and have a customer service-oriented attitude.
• Excellent communication skills.

Preferred Education/Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, related degree or equivalent experience.
• Strong troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with backup management systems and disaster recovery planning.
• Data warehouse and Power BI report writing experience a plus.
