Responsible for managing and directing the Material Laboratory, New Product Design & Development and the Quality departments of the company. Manage and lead the product and material maturation process for all new business. Provide support to other departments by evaluating and developing new suppliers, developing new product cost estimates, and release of all manufacturing drawings, material compositions and specifications for critical new products. Responsible for the development of Quality and Environmental Management System processes with the goal of certification to IATF 16949 and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.
The key organizational impact involves leadership of all new material and product design and development activities of the company in an effective manner resulting in significant new sales.
1. Manage and direct all activities within the Material Laboratory, New Product Design & Development, and the Quality departments of the company.
2. Implement changes and improvements to the Quality Management System (QMS) that will result in certification to IATF 16949
3. Provide executive leadership and support to the President on all company aspects related to product, material technology and quality. 1
4. Provide technical support and identify opportunities for improvement of suppliers as needed.
5. Expand and improve the technical capabilities of the company in support of new business.
6. Maintain QMS certifications to ISO 14001 and 9001.
7. Select, train and develop the technical capabilities and effectiveness of subordinate personnel.
• Broad, in-depth technical & design knowledge of the polymer industry and related markets.
• Strong technical leadership and executive management experience.
• Familiarity and application knowledge of a wide range of applicable manufacturing processes.
• Must possess a thorough understanding of Quality Management Systems such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF 16949.
• General knowledge of MRP/ERP systems, inventory systems, PPAP and APQP processes
• Strong technical writing, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to develop and implement an effective product/material technology strategy for the company.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Science or a related field; advanced degree strongly preferred.
• Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred.
• 10 – 15 years minimum related experience.
• 2+ years’ experience as a functional head of a quality department preferred.
