Meet Mario Del Real, RL Hudson Director of Business Development

Posted March 3rd - jessica.putz

Tell us about your experience as a Territory Manager at RL Hudson?

I started at RL Hudson in 2015 supporting the mid-west region as a Territory Manager. I was responsible for sales and support for existing customers and for development of new business in my territory. I consider RL Hudson to be the industries best kept secret. Being a growing family-owned business, we develop close relationships with those we work with. This tends to extend to the relationships we build with our customers. We try our best to provide a world class experience, yet have a small company feel, where you can talk to a real person who truly cares about our customers.

With the industry leading customer base that we have it would lead you to believe that we are billion-dollar company, we are not.  Our relationships with our customers are important to us and it shows in everything we do. This is one of the biggest reasons I have really enjoyed my time at RL Hudson.

In addition to the great relationships, we develop with our customers, we have an amazing range of products and capacities that rival multi-billion-dollar companies.  With a broad range of plastic manufacturing capabilities from Injection molding to Blow molding and on the rubber side, from rubber molding to hose manufacturing, we can provide the best solution and the best value in the industry. For the icing on the cake, we have the greatest engineering and development team. We work quickly, accurately with a multitude of included support services that add so much value to our customers engineering needs.

We are an extension of our customers development teams.

You have taken on a new role.  Can you tell us about it?

Most recently I have accepted a role as Director of Business development, where I am primarily responsible for finding our future customer partners. With the support and services we offer, it is a pleasure to be in this role and certainly makes my job easier and enjoyable.

It is important for me to target companies that will be a great fit long term. It is important to find customers where we bring them as much value as they bring to us. It is a true partnership. We have many great partner customers today and there are more to be made. For me, the process is as enjoyable as the success.

What types of business does RL Hudson service?

We currently support most manufacturing industries, on-highway, construction, agriculture, recreational vehicles, marine and industrial. I am actively exploring emerging markets that are either brand new or slight off-set to where we have already had success.  Some examples are autonomous delivery vehicles, alternative energy vehicles and commercial and residential industries, such as HVAC and waterworks.  There is so much more out there, the challenge is being patient enough to find the right fit, but when it does happen, it is worth the wait.

What sets RL Hudson apart from other plastics and rubber manufactures?

RL Hudson manufactures products and supports our customers with world class service and experience, yet we offer a very personalized experience to each of our customers. No customer is the same, every product is different and our ability to support and produce is like no other.

You get all the technology, engineering, and manufacturing capability of a large company with the feel of a local business that you have trusted for many years.

What is the process for you bringing on a new customer at RL Hudson?

It is very important when looking for new customer that there is a good fit. No true partnership works when only one company benefits. It is important to ask a few key questions to learn about the company’s needs and how they do business. Do they have quality or delivery issues with current products? Do they look for support on design and development? Are they looking for a partner who can provide complete turn-key assemblies? What are some of the current challenges they have? What would they like to receive that they are not receiving from current supply base? Asking some of these questions is important as it sets for the stage for a more productive and honest discussion. Sometimes the discussion advances to the next stage and sometimes we part ways. But being honest and straight forward is the best way toward finding those true partnerships.
