Tell us about your experience as a Territory Manager at RL Hudson?
What I am most proud of is our integrity and how we treat our customers. We have a core value that says we “Make Above and Beyond Seem Ordinary,” and I encounter this all the time in the way we look out for our customers’ best interests. The way we work together, our family atmosphere, and sense of community stand out and those characteristics are truly unique at RL Hudson.
I have been with RL Hudson for 15 years and outside sales 34 years total. After graduating from Clemson University, I sold textiles but have spent the last 22 in molded rubber and plastic. For RL Hudson, I cover the southeast United States out of my office in Greenville, South Carolina and handle accounts and prospects in Europe.
I love to promote our biggest strength, which in my opinion, is our ability to design parts with our engineering group while working directly with our customer’s engineering team. RL Hudson is able to solve design problems, reduce costs, and also consolidate parts. We want to assure our customers get the best attention, so they are assigned a Project Manager out of our Broken Arrow, Oklahoma office to follow the process through the production part approval process (PPAP).
What types of industries does RL Hudson service?
Heavy-duty truck, powersports, marine and power equipment have been our largest, but we are actively and rapidly expanding into new markets like Appliance, Climate Control, Electrification and Waterworks. Market diversification is a major priority for our company right now. My territory is largely the heavy-duty truck engine market, leisure markets, like golf carts and UTV’s, and construction equipment. We service a wide range of markets and are willing to explore any opportunities in rubber or plastic. We have created solutions for existing clients in the battery sector because it has become such a huge need. RL Hudson is always eager to discover new solutions that can be resolved with molded rubber and plastics.
What sets RL Hudson apart from other plastics and rubber manufactures?
We have a wide range of molding options with different manufacturing and warehousing locations globally. As mentioned, engineering is a big strength for RL Hudson that really sets us apart from our competition. We make sure to service our customers. We consistently have a 99% on time delivery rate and we really focus on our relationships and partnerships.
An additional strength that RL Hudson has is our quality control department that is both in the United States and abroad. We have a mentality to constantly improve and prevent problems before they occur, in other words error prevention versus relying on error detections, allows us to provide quality solutions and exemplary products for our customers worldwide.
What is the process for you bringing on a new customer at RL Hudson?
I try to identify a customer with good potential that I believe has a need for RL Hudson in their supply base. We offer a wide range of solutions to improve our customers bottom line by solving other supplier’s quality issues, providing in house assembly, and reducing production costs. One way we lessen costs is our ability to convert metal parts to plastic by reducing weight and providing a more affordable material.
